What programmes have your school implemented to encourage recycling in your primary school?

For each level, we have incorporated service learning into our environment education programme.

For P1,we have the clean and green school project, where the p1 pupils clean the school facilities.

For P2 we have the tidy up the library project, where the pupils shelve the books, but apart from that, they also clean up the library, to promote the litter free initiatives.

For p4, they have the animals with love project. However, they will raise funds for the SPCA by selling 3R products which are created by the pupils.

For the whole school, every year we celebrate Earth Day. Last year, our theme was saving Gaia and BVPS and this year is Revive our fallen Earth. So every year for the past 2 years, we celebrate Earth Day and Earth hour. For Earth hour, for 22 minutes, we do not have our fans and lights on, so teachers will have lessons without the fans and lights. We are also involved in Southwest CDC’s Green Schools project and we have been getting Gold for the past 3 years. For the whole school project, p1-p6 pupils actually involved in the Green for Hope project, which raise at least 6kg of papers every Thursday. So far, we’ve saved about 100 over trees. The results have been shown to the pupils, so that it fosters a kind of not just competiveness, but the importance of saving trees.

So basically, we’ve incorporated service learning as well as extended activities to widen their horizon of saving the Earth. So we have quite a number of activities.
